Frequently asked questions
Due to COVID-19 and for the protection of our therapists and clients we will be implementing new rules and regulations as per the Federation of State Massage Therapy Board, The American Massage Therapy Association, and the CDC.
We do not work on clients who are experiencing symptoms of fever, sore throat, cold, or flu symptoms. This is never the time to come for a massage.
Do not come in for a session if you have been experiencing symptoms of COVID 19 or have been recently (within the last 14days) exposed to someone who has been diagnosed or experiencing symptoms of COVID 19.
Clients will be given an additional COVID screening to sign before their session.
Clients and therapists are welcome to wear masks in the office and for the full length of the session. Disposable masks are available for clients and therapists.
Shoes must be removed after entering the space, or disposable shoe covers can be provided.
Q: What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?
A: At DUMBO Wellness we require you to fill out a health history form. Afterward, the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on; or if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition and to see if you have any presenting complaints.
Q: What do I wear during the massage?
A: For most sessions at DUMBO Wellness you will want to be undressed. All clients are covered by a sheet that is removed only over the area to be worked on. After that area is worked on it is again covered by the sheet. Some clients prefer to undress fully while others prefer to leave their underwear on. Your massage therapist will step out of the room to give you privacy to undress and knock before returning. Your comfort is of great importance to us so please let us know if you are uncomfortable or prefer more draping covers etc. We can adjust our techniques at any time to create a client-centered session that is right for you.
Q: What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?
A: Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she or he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Default to comfort. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
Q: Is a massage always appropriate?
A: No, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. For example the beginnings of a cold or a slight fever; right after dental or other kind of brief surgery; or pregnant women with specific issues. All clients must provide health information in the health history forms before they begin their session. The massage therapist will ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. You must inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, you are strongly advised to receive a written recommendation for a massage before any session. Your massage therapist may require a recommendation or approval from your doctor.
